A few random things.

Here are a few things that have happened the last two weeks that are worth mentioning!

#1: Caleb had his 18 month visit, I can't believe he's not my baby anymore. For weight he is in the 20th percentile, for height the 85th percentile.

#2: I was one of John's patients and had a cavity filled. Okay, first of all, you have to know I absolutely hate going to the dentist. Perhaps it has something to do with me having a filling in basically every tooth in my mouth, or maybe the traumatic experience of having 11 cavities all at the same time, but I dread sitting in that chair stairing at the ceiling for hours with the sound of a high pitched drill and a rubber umbrella contraption that takes up half your face. But--I went in for the sake of John. Over Christmas, my mom (who is a dental hygenist) cleaned my teeth and took some x-rays. It had been 3 years since I had my teeth cleaned, I should have known I was due for more cavities! I didn't think that was possible due to the fact I have soooo many fillings, but of course decay can set in around or under the fillings, which is exactly what has happened to me...I was given the bad news that I have 4 cavities! So this last week John had a cancelation and squeezed me in take care of one of them. Let me say right now that I think John will be a wonderful dentist, but he still has a bit of perfecting to do on his techniques! I hate hate hate the shots they give to numb you up, ouch! John definitely needs to practice giving shots on a few more people before I get another one! After I was anesthetized, John put the rubber dam in my mouth, which not only cuts into your gums (with the metal ring on the bottom) but has to be flossed in between your teeth through half of your mouth, parts of which are not numb! I'm being a big baby about the whole thing and I apologize, it's just been so long that I've had a cavity filled I had almost forgotten how miserable the whole process can be! I sat in the chair with my mouth open for over 3 hours! The numbness was beginning to wear off in the end so I had to try to concentrate on happy things and try to forget the pain I was starting to feel. In the end, I now have a beautiful white composite filling to replace my old silver one. I'm just dreading that I have 3 more cavities to fill!

Picture taken after the filling...and yes, I was still able to muster a smile!

#3: Saturday was Washington's Caucus and I voted for.....Obama! Though I really liked Mitt Romney and would have voted for him, Obama took second place. I could not believe the turn out, the school where the local caucus was held was packed! The streets were also lined with people walking to the school, tons and tons of people! I need to read up a bit more about the candidates before the national election, but as it presently stands, I like Obama.

Riverdance!

For all of you who think we never do anything fun (which I admit happens too often!), we did do something fun, we saw Riverdance! John surprised me with tickets for our anniversary. I'm not sure why he picked Riverdance, I never had said anything about it, but I think he deserves a few pats on the back for the element of surprise. We went last Friday night and had a great time. We dropped off Caleb at the in-laws and had a night to ourselves, I love those nights! We both thought Riverdance was just okay though...some of the dances/dancers could have been better, but it was still really fun to watch!

I'm also posting a picture of the dental practice we visited in Lacey (a little over an hour from Seattle) on Saturday. John has been offered a possible buy in with a dentist who presently owns the practice. The practice has 5 operatories (which is quite good for starting out), two hygenists, an assistance and receptionist. The location is not the best, in a strip mall in between Emerald Smoothies and a beauty school, but we tried the smoothies and they were good, so being next to them possibly could be a bonus! :-) If we did commit to this place in Lacey, we'd be making decent money and could buy our first house, but John still wants to do a residency, so the house will have to wait perhaps another year. Still so many decisions to consider!
