Hey everyone!
I was sent a letter a few weeks ago informing me of being chosen for jury duty this last week. I had actually been really excited, envisioning being questioned in a courtroom by the lawyers and the judge, passing the grueling questions (trying to detect any biases) and then being selected to serve on a jury, watching and participating first hand how our justice system works. My grand vision was quickly replaced with reality, as I sat for hours in a large open (but rather empty) room overlooking Seattle on the 12th floor of the building... waiting with nothing happening, with 50 other potential jurors. There were two groups of 10-15 people that were called for questioning, but I was never one of them. I had finished a book I was reading at ten that morning, I still had 6 1/2 hours before I could go home! Wednesday came and was more of the same. Caleb was staying with my mother-in-law those days (since I obviously couldn't bring him with me--just in case something actually happened!). I found out he was feeling sick so I asked the lady who was over the jurors, if I could be excused from attending the next day (Thursday) and stay home with my baby. Luckily she said yes, since I had not been called for questioning that day or the previous day. I even got to go home early on Wednesday! My baby has been really sick so I'm glad I was able to stay home. In talking with another juror who had been chosen to serve on a jury, my grand vision of what jury duty was like exactly met the description she told me. Sadly, I had to experience what happens if you're never questioned or chosen! Maybe next time!
And to end with a few pictures of Caleb at the park. The pictures were taken last Saturday when the temperature was 80 degrees, today we had snow flakes-- crazy April weather in Seattle!
